Full job description

Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Paediatric Emergency Registrar to join the Emergency department.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About the Role:

The Paediatric Emergency Department at Northern Health is a separate collocated department accredited with ACEM for 12 months of ED (PEM) training and RACP for 6 months of advanced training. We provide training opportunities to a mixture of ACEM, PEM, ICU and RACP trainees. We employ a diverse group of doctors, nurses, allied health and clerical staff. We promote a strong culture of teamwork and adopt the principle that we are all part of a large work family who support and respect each other. We welcome full-time and part time applications and are flexible at accommodating individual personal needs.

As a Paediatric Emergency Registrar, you will experience a wide range of interesting and varied pathology and have ample opportunity to initiate and be involved in the care of a diverse mix of Paediatric presentations. You will be well supported by Paediatric Emergency Physicians, providing a unique learning experience in a non-tertiary Paediatric emergency centre.

We have a comprehensive Paediatric Emergency Education Program, which includes 5 hours of protected paid teaching per week. Our ACEM DEMT and RACP Supervisor of Training are readily available to assist and answer any questions. We have a very active Paediatric Emergency simulation programme providing regular opportunities to develop leadership and management skills, and consolidate learning.

There are ample opportunities to be involved in quality improvement and research projects which will help broaden your experience.

We have a close working relationship with our General Paediatric team. The General Paediatric department is accredited for training with the PEM JTC. We have a standing position available to PEM trainees looking to complete their Paediatric medicine term (6 months Paediatric medicine/6 months Paediatric ED). We also have relationships with other Melbourne Paediatric and Adult Emergency departments to assist with ongoing training needs.
