About the Business Unit:

The Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) is a maximum-security facility providing state-wide assessment and orientation services for all male prisoners received into the prison system and is located within the North West Metropolitan Area, Department of Justice. MAP consists of the prison, the custody facilities at the County, Supreme and Appeal Courts and holding cells at St Vincent's Hospital for prisoners requiring outpatient medical treatment.

About the Role:

The Justice Officer is an entry-level position to a career in corporate services in the Department's eight Regions, through which the compliance, enforcement and regulatory services are provided to the Victorian community.

Some of your duties will include:

  • As part of the Finance & Stores team, and under supervision, providing high-quality financial, procurement, stores and canteen services and fleet and asset management in accordance with the Financial Management Act 1994, other government regulations and guidelines and MAP local operating procedures
  • Serving prisoners in the prisoner canteen, ensure up to date records are maintained and adherence to compliance requirements
  • Preparing stock estimates, obtain quotes, organise purchases to maintain stock levels, undertake regular stock-takes, maintain accurate records and maintain the stores and prisoner canteen in good order.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Well-developed computer literacy with the ability of adapting to new systems and software with ease
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the importance of maintaining accurate records and associated legal implications of documents handed down by courts.
