Now is an exciting time to join us as we transform into a stronger, more agile organisation, with a focus on excellent customer and patient experiences, smarter ways of working and being a great place for our people to work.
This role is suited to people who enjoy helping others and want to do meaningful work. Pathology Collectors play a vital role in their community and are often the first person a patient meets on their healthcare journey, helping them feel comfortable, supported and confident they’re in good hands.
You’ll be part of a team that takes pride in delivering high-quality care and creating positive patient experiences every day. With supportive leaders, a strong team culture and a focus on recognising the moments that matter, you’ll have the support you need to grow and make a meaningful impact.
About Us
Healius is one of Australia’s leading healthcare companies, committed to supporting quality, affordable and accessible healthcare for all Australians. Through our network of state-based and specialty brands, we provide high-quality diagnostic services that support clinicians to make informed decisions and improve patient outcomes.
With more than 80 medical laboratories and approximately 2,000 patient collection centres nationwide, we process approximately one in four Medicare-funded pathology tests each year, supporting services that extend from some of Australia’s largest and most complex private and public hospitals to regional areas and remote Indigenous communities.
About The Role
As a Hospital Pathology Collector, you will collect blood and non-blood samples across various hospital wards while delivering a positive, professional and caring experience to every patient. This role requires the ability to work efficiently and confidently in a fast-paced clinical setting, where responsiveness and accuracy are critical to patient care.
Key responsibilities:
- Collect blood and other samples from patients within the hospital with precision and care
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with doctors, nurses and hospital staff to support patient care and respond to clinical priorities
- Prepare and package specimens for transport in line with procedures and turnaround requirements
- Maintain accurate records and follow required processes
- Support smooth day-to-day operations within a busy hospital environment
About You
We are ideally seeking an experienced Pathology Collector with a Certificate III in Pathology Collection and experience working within a hospital environment.
We also welcome applications from candidates with a background in healthcare (e.g. aged care, disability support or similar) who are looking to transition into pathology.
Above all, you will be comfortable working in a fast-paced hospital environment, managing changing priorities and staying calm under pressure.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience in pathology collection is desirable but not essential
- Certificate III in Pathology Collection is desirable but not essential
- Previous experience working in a hospital or acute setting is desirable but not essential
- A background in healthcare (e.g. aged care, disability, nursing) or a strong customer-facing background
Requirements
- A valid Working With Children Check (WWCC), or willingness to obtain one prior to commencement
- Ability to provide evidence of immunisation requirements including Hepatitis B
Key Skills and Attributes
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A genuine care for people, with a high level of empathy and professionalism
- Strong communication skills, with a natural ability to connect with others, explain clearly and build trust
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with clinical staff and stakeholders
- Ability to follow processes and procedures with accuracy and consistency
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks based on clinical urgency
- Sound judgement, with a willingness to learn and the ability to adapt, take initiative and act within scope
We believe everyone leads, no matter what role they are in. Our ways of leading are the behaviours we expect our people to embody: Customer Focused, Accountable, Collaborative, Credible and Resourceful.
Training
This role requires completion of a 6-week paid training program designed to build the essential skills and knowledge needed to succeed in collections. This requires a commitment to full-time hours for the first 2 weeks, followed by a minimum of 25 hours per week.
