About the Role
The Forensic Services Support team plays a critical role in supporting VIFM's Medical and Scientific Services through forensic transcription, records management, case administration and client service. Working closely with medical and scientific professionals, the team helps ensure the accurate and timely management of casework, report production and records systems that underpin essential forensic services.
As a Forensic Medical Transcriptionist and Records Officer, you will provide high-quality medical transcription services for highly confidential forensic reports while supporting records management, and administrative activities. This is a varied role in a unique environment that contributes to Victoria's justice system, public health outcomes and community safety.
Working collaboratively with a supportive and experienced team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work while developing your skills in one of Australia's leading forensic medicine organisations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate medical audio transcription services to support the production of highly confidential medico-legal, pathology reports.
- Undertaking administrative review of reports in keeping with accreditation standards and quality requirements.
- Records and case administration activities, including record tracking, retrieval, archiving and responding to information requests.
- Utilise transcription tools and software to support accuracy, productivity and efficiency.
- General administrative tasks across forensic medical and scientific services.
About You
You are a highly organised and detail-oriented professional who t akes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work. Resilient and emotionally intelligent, you are comfortable working with sensitive and sometimes confronting information and understand the importance of accessing support and debriefing when required.

Key Qualifications and Attributes
- Demonstrated experience in medical transcription, including knowledge of medical terminology, particularly pathology terminology.
- Audio typing proficiency of 70-80 words per minute with a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Well-developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a strong customer service focus.
- Proficiency in transcription tools and software, including audio transcription technology.
- A collaborative, adaptable and resilient approach to work, with exceptional attention to detail.
