About the Role
As a Junior Medical Scientist within the Molecular Genetics Laboratory you will have the opportunity to work in a leading molecular diagnostics environment. The role is part of a significant Victorian public pathology transformation that will unite pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital, and the Royal Children’s Hospital into a single network led by Melbourne Health.
As part of this new centre of excellence, you will contribute to advancing pathology services across the Parkville precinct, supporting improved healthcare outcomes for Victorians through a more integrated, collaborative, and innovative pathology service.
Key Accountabilities
Handling of biological specimens & referrals
Conduct various molecular assays (e.g. DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, Sanger sequencing, massively parallel sequencing)
Assay development and validation
Quality activities
Curation of genetic variants to determine their impact in human disease
About You
A Bachelor of Science (Medical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, or equivalent)
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to delivering a patient focused service
Demonstrated effective & clear written and oral communication skills while working in a team
Ability to prioritise tasks to meet reporting deadlines
Desirable
Experience in Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assays & gel electrophoresis
Experience in handling Pathology approved clinical trial work
Experience in using a Pathology Laboratory Information System (LIS)
Experience in using a Pathology Quality Management System (QMS)
