Staff Specialist in Paediatric Neurology

An exciting opportunity exists for a Staff Specialist in Paediatric Neurology to join the multidisciplinary team at John Hunter Children’s Hospital, the major tertiary referral centre for Northern NSW. This role offers the opportunity to provide specialist neurological care to children and young people across inpatient, outpatient and consultative settings while contributing to education, research and service development within a leading paediatric healthcare service.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Staff Specialist in Paediatric Neurology to join the multidisciplinary team at John Hunter Children’s Hospital, the major tertiary referral centre for Northern NSW. This role offers the opportunity to provide specialist neurological care to children and young people across inpatient, outpatient and consultative settings while contributing to education, research and service development within a leading paediatric healthcare service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high quality, evidence based, and patient focused care to admitted and non-admitted patients, families and carers across Hunter New England Local Health District and the Child Health Network – Northern.
- Deliver specialist paediatric neurology service including inpatient, outpatient and consultative care to John Hunter Children’s Hospital, John Hunter Hospital Emergency Department and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
- Manage children and young people with neurological disorders and provide ambulatory clinic services across the district.
- Participate in the after-hours on-call roster, including weekends and public holidays.
- Utilise expertise in paediatric EEG reporting, with additional experience in genetics and NCV/EMG services highly regarded.
- Contribute to clinical teaching, research, quality improvement and service development activities.
Essential requirements:
- Eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in Paediatric Neurology, or eligibility through an approved overseas trained specialist pathway.
- Evidence of being a medical expert, demonstrated by recent and comprehensive experience in Paediatric Neurology.
