The Government Notices Unit (GNU) is a critical part of Westpac’s Financial Crime Surveillance function, sitting within the Risk Division.
The team is responsible for managing and responding to legal notices and information requests from law enforcement, regulators, and government agencies. Our work plays a vital role in combatting financial crime, supporting law enforcement investigations, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
What’s the role?
As a Risk Analyst in the GNU, you will be responsible for handling and assessing information requests from external agencies such as Australian Police Forces, AUSTRAC, ASIC, the ATO and Third-Party Agencies.
- Reviewing and responding to legal notices and requests for customer information in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Analysing transaction records, customer details, and financial activity to support investigations.
- Liaising with law enforcement agencies and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate responses.
- Managing case workflows efficiently, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external obligations.
What do I need?
This is a role designed for curious minds with a keen interest in financial crime. Whether you’re building on early experience or looking to deepen your exposure, we’ll provide the training, support and coaching to help you grow your skills and confidence in a complex and ever‑evolving risk environment.
- Experience in banking, financial services or regulatory compliance (preferred).
- Exposure to financial crime investigations, risk management or law enforcement liaison (desirable).
- Strong analytical and investigative capability, with the ability to interpret financial and transactional data.
- Confidence managing multiple cases independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- A collaborative mindset, with a willingness to contribute to team uplift, learning and knowledge sharing.
- Genuine curiosity and a desire to continue learning about financial crime, regulatory risk and emerging threats.
Why join us?
We’re obsessed with becoming our customers #1 banking partner for life and we’re looking for people who are passionate about helping us achieve that goal.
In return we’re committed to making Westpac the best place to work in the country. Here are just a few of the ways we’re already doing that:
- Special offers on banking products and discounts from top brands, including generous employee-only mortgage rates!
- Flexible work arrangements to help you achieve a greater work/life balance, and a variety of leave options including Culture, Lifestyle and Wellbeing leave.
- Tailored learning and development opportunities to help your grow your career within the bank.
