About us
The National Coronial Information System(NCIS) is a data repository containing information on deaths reported to a coroner in Australia and New Zealand. It is an essential data tool for both coroners and researchers to obtain nationally standardised information about the causes of preventable death and injury.
As a voluntary collaboration between the Australian States and Territories and New Zealand, the NCIS is unique at both a national and international level. The NCIS is leading the way in the provision of data for evidence-based mortality research, given its comprehensive demographic data, medical cause of death and searchable medicolegal documentation.
What you will do
As an NCIS data support officer, you will help maintain accurate and useful national data.
You will support data quality, coding and resources for the National Coronial Information System.
You will:
- complete data quality checks and audits to keep NCIS data accurate and fit for use.
- provide coding advice and training to court-based staff and NCIS data users.
- help develop practical solutions to data issues and improve how data is managed.
- help prepare and share NCIS publications, resources and web content.
- support NCIS operations including planning, improvement work and other tasks as needed.
About you
You should have experience with coding classifications and basic medical terminology, including anatomy. You should also have intermediate Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
You should also have:
- data skills and experience working with large datasets, quality checks or audits.
- Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables and data charts.
- flexibility to manage changing priorities and work with people across different teams.
- clear communication and problem-solving skills, with a focus on inclusion and teamwork.
