The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community-based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.
Unit Description:
The Thoracic Surgical Service performs over 600 cases per year with 5 dedicated operating sessions, 3 clinics & 2 MDMs weekly.
The Service employs 4 specialist Thoracic Surgeons and is supported by a Fellow, SET Trainee and a non-accredited Thoracic Surgery Registrar, resident staff and a Lung Liaison Nurse.
Whilst the Service is part of the RMH Cardiothoracic Unit, the Thoracic Service operates independently with no requirement for the Registrar to participate in Cardiac Surgery. A 1-in-3 Thoracic call roster is shared between the Fellow and Registrars.
About the role:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our Thoracic Surgery Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital to learn and participate in thoracic surgery patient care, training, research and mentoring as per the requirements of the specific role.
The position will include:
Assist in the care of Thoracic Surgery Patients
Train in Thoracic Surgery
Inpatient referrals, operating sessions, RMH Multi-Disciplinary meeting and RMH Outpatient clinics.
About You:
Current General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications
Ability to work in a team
Well-developed communication and presentation skills.
At least 3 months rotation as Cardiothoracic Resident
