Support world-leading genomics in a hands-on laboratory role with weekend penalty rates and career development opportunities!

The opportunity:
Victorian Clinical Genetics Services (VCGS) is looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our Sequencing Platform and support the delivery of high-quality genomic testing services for patients, clinicians and researchers across Australia and New Zealand.

Working alongside an experienced and collaborative team, you'll contribute to diagnostic and research sequencing services using industry-leading technologies while supporting innovative genomics that helps improve patient care.

This full-time role works a Wednesday to Sunday roster, offering applicable weekend penalty rates while supporting the delivery of world-leading genomic testing services.

What you’ll do

Perform molecular laboratory procedures for clinical and research samples
Prepare Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) libraries and perform quality control activities
Operate and maintain sequencing instruments and laboratory robotics
Process specimens and maintain accurate laboratory records using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
Ensure laboratory work is completed in accordance with NATA/NPAAC/ISO 15189 requirements and VCGS quality standards
Contribute to research projects, quality improvement initiatives and continuous process improvements

What you’ll bring

Availability to work a Wednesday to Sunday roster, including regular weekend shifts (weekend penalty rates apply)
Qualifications in Biological Sciences or related discipline
Experience working in a NATA-accredited diagnostic laboratory
Knowledge of molecular genetic techniques and laboratory procedures
Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
Experience using laboratory information systems and Microsoft Office

Experience with NGS library preparation, Illumina or Oxford Nanopore sequencing platforms, laboratory robotics and Clarity LIMS will be highly regarded.
