Our Policy Regulatory Reform team is currently seeking to appoint a Water Strategy Officer
The Water Strategy Officer role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-profile water policy reform and strategy implementation projects that support the sustainable management of water resources across NSW. The successful candidate will work closely with a collaborative and multidisciplinary team across the Water Group, partnering with internal experts, government agencies, local councils, water utilities and other key stakeholders to deliver strategic water management outcomes.
Key responsibilities include research and analysis, developing briefing materials and business cases, supporting governance committees, monitoring and reporting on water strategy outcomes, and providing evidence-based advice on emerging water management issues. The team fosters a supportive, consultative culture with a strong focus on collaboration, innovation and delivering positive outcomes for communities, industry and the environment across NSW.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will have
- Experience in water management, environmental science, natural resource management, water planning, hydrology, engineering, economics, climate change, or a related discipline, with an understanding of contemporary water policy and reform issues.
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to gather, interpret and synthesise complex information and provide evidence-based recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality briefing papers, submissions and reports, and clearly present technical information to diverse stakeholders.
- Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across government agencies, local councils, water utilities and multidisciplinary teams to achieve shared outcomes.
- Strong project management, organisational and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to manage competing priorities, deliver outcomes within tight timeframes and adapt to emerging issues in a dynamic policy environment.
Essential Requirements
- NSW Class C Driver Licence (or equivalent) and willingness to undertake overnight travel.
