Primary objective
The Service Registrar provides clinical and operational support to consultant radiologists in the delivery of high-quality
diagnostic and interventional radiology services within the Medical Imaging Department. The role contributes to safe,
effective, and timely patient care through clinical service delivery, coordination of departmental workflow, multidisciplinary
team activities, and communication across clinical and administrative teams, while developing radiology knowledge and
procedural expertise within a structured training environment.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Demonstrate knowledge and application of patient safety, clinical governance, and quality improvement principles
within a healthcare environment.
2. Provide clinical support to consultant radiologists in the delivery of diagnostic and interventional radiology services.
3. Participate in clinical assessment, patient preparation, imaging procedures, reporting support, and clinical review
appropriate to the level of training and supervision.
4. Apply principles of informed consent, effective clinical communication, and accurate medical documentation.
5. Knowledge of contrast safety, adverse reaction management, and imaging-related clinical risks.
6. Maintain professional accountability and practice within scope, seeking advice and supervision when required.
7. Ability to recognise and appropriately escalate significant clinical and imaging findings.
8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with patients, and multidisciplinary teams.
9. Ability to coordinate clinical activities, prioritise workload and manage competing demands, while being adaptable and
resilient in a dynamic clinical environment.
10. Demonstrates initiative and a commitment to ongoing learning.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current or the ability to obtain general registration with AHPRA as a Medical Officer prior to commencing the position.
2. Completion of an internship with a relevant health institution and 12 months experience as a Resident Medical Officer
3. Experience in practicing medicine in a rural or remote location (may include rotations undertaken as a medical student).
4. Experience in practicing medicine with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Indigenous people.
5. Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact positively as a team member in a
cross-cultural work environment.
Desirable
1. Experience in minor radiology procedures, including fluoroscopic procedures such as barium swallow studies and
proficiency in vascular access.
2. Interest in protocol review and development and knowledge of medical audits and involvement in medical research.
3. Evidence of continuing professional development activity.
4. Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements
