The goal of this question is to assess the candidate's interest in working for your establishment, motivation for working in food service in general, and passion about the job. What to look for in an answer:

"I want to work for your restaurant because I love your mission of making delicious food from ethically sourced ingredients. I have a passion for both food and the environment, and I really appreciate the way you focus on buying from local farms to support the community and reduce waste. I also would love this job because I know it's customer-facing, and I love being friendly and interacting with people."

What are the day-to-day duties of a busboy, and how can you do them well?

The goal of this question is to assess the candidate's knowledge of the job description, their work ethic, and their ability to work efficiently. What to look for in an answer:

  • Knowledge of the duties of a busboy
  • An understanding that a busboy is support staff
  • A desire to work hard

"I know that a busboy is usually responsible for clearing tables, washing dishes, setting tables, and refilling water and condiments. The goal of this question is to assess the candidate's customer service skills and work experience. It also checks that the candidate knows that the busboy role is customer-facing. What to look for in an answer:

"I think my greatest strength is my ability to stay calm in stressful situations. This can aid me in being a busboy because I know I would work during the breakfast, lunch, and dinner rushes, which can be chaotic.
