The Hospital

This is a 600 bed state of the art Tertiary Teaching Hospital serving a population of over half a million. The combined Paediatric Units can cater for up to 50 inpatients, has an active medical and surgical day stay and clinical investigation unit, and a busy and growing outpatient department. There is also a tertiary accredited Level 5 NICU. The hospital also offers subspecialty paediatric care in areas of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, Paediatric Nephrology, Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes and Paediatric Surgery.

The Department

The department has an FRACP training program with a paediatric fellow, 10 registrars, 6 SRMO positions and 5 PGY2 positions. There is an active junior doctor programme which is producing quality trainees interested in continuing in paediatrics. Involvement in departmental teaching is required and research is encouraged and supported.

Staff Specialist Community Paediatrician Hunter New England Local Health District Permanent 0.5 FTE and Temporary 0.3 FTE (until 30 June [phone number]) Apply for the position HERE Hnelhd is seeking an experienced Staff Specialist for an exciting opportunity to provide care for children and their families in Community Paediatrics across Newcastle and Rural and Regional Health Services. The role will be made up of two fractional components. The first is a 0.5 FTE permanent appointment with HNEKidsHealth Community Partnerships and Integrated Services, based in Newcastle, where you will be responsible for providing paediatric outpatient assessment and clinical management of children with developmental and behavioural challenges. There is also the opportunity to working in the tertiary specialist Child Protection Team at John Hunter Children s Hospital. This position will provide both general and forensic medical assessments, consultation, and clinical management of children and young people referred to the Child Protection/Sexual Assault Service. You will additionally participate in the on-call roster for the Child Protection and Child Sexual Assault services, as well as the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Clinical Advice Line (Casacal). The second component is a 0.3 FTE temporary appointment (until June [phone number]) where you will provide trauma informed paediatric outpatient assessment of children with developmental and behavioural problems on the Out Of Home Care (OOHC) Pathway. The role includes collaboration with the team to conduct two diagnostic assessments per day. Pediatricians are also responsible for coordinating the assessment findings and contribute to the final diagnostic report.
